José Graduated from the National University of Colombia in 2008.  After graduation, he worked as a junior surgeon at the same institution for five years, the last two of them as a junior lecturer in small animal surgery. During those years, he had the opportunity to discover his passion for teaching, which inspired him to become an educator and pursue a scientific career abroad.  

José obtained his master’s degree from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain and his PhD from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany. At this last institution, he completed a one-year rotational internship and worked as a postdoctoral fellow and veterinarian.  

José’s research focuses on several areas of veterinary medicine, including wild and small animal medicine and surgery. He is especially interested in oncologic surgery with an emphasis on tumour molecular analysis, biomarker discovery, and the development and testing of new therapeutic alternatives for cancer.
