Ali Harris graduated from UQ in 2011 and up until this year, she has worked as a general practice small animal clinician in private practice on the Gold Coast. Throughout her career, she has undertaken diverse roles, including directorships and co-ownership of a fledgling clinic, nurturing it into a thriving enterprise. Her journey in recent years, has been marked by a deepening commitment to surgery, where she has trained in advanced surgical procedures with a love for orthopaedics, soft tissue reconstruction and a very special interest in the surgical correction of upper airway obstruction in brachycephalic breeds.

Ali discovered her love of teaching during her time in general practice, which prompted her to transition into the realms of education and research. She returned to UQ early this year where she has been actively involved with tutoring 4th and 5th year surgical practicals. This experience ignited her to pursue a graduate teaching program and enrolment in a Master’s degree where she is involved in an oncology clinical trial to treat bone cancer in dogs.

Ali’s dedication to surgery and teaching is palpable. She makes weekly commutes from the Gold Coast to nurture her academic and research interests and has just joined our surgical team. Her professional ethos resonates deeply with the university’s values, as she aspires to make a meaningful impact in veterinary medicine and surgery, while helping to mold the next generation of veterinarians.
