Secure your fences
Secure all fences so cattle don't stray to greener pastures — including those in your neighbour's garden or across the road.
Stray cattle often cause road accidents and neighbourly tensions. Contact local fencing contractors to get advice.
How to set up your yard
Yards and a crush are essential. You may have a sweet-natured, docile cow who enjoys a scratch behind the ear, but it won't stand still if you need to treat an injury. A cow's size and weight can make it dangerous.
Include a race and ramp in your set-up to make getting cattle into the crush and loaded onto trucks easier.
Shelter is essential for all livestock. If your property lacks adequate vegetation, you'll need to provide some form of shelter.
