About

The UQ VETS Production Animal Service provides emergency and routine veterinary care for production and hobby farm animals.

Our highly trained and compassionate large-animal vets travel within a 70-kilometre radius of UQ Gatton for on-farm visits.

Wide-ranging services

Our services include:

  • 24/7 emergency
  • disease investigation
  • individual animal medicine
  • on-farm herd health, including reproductive and preventive medicine
  • surgery.

We care for herds and flocks, show animals and hobby farm companion animals, including beef and dairy cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and alpacas.

We have long-standing relationships with our clients, many of whom have herds that require ongoing care.

Innovative care

We have access to the UQ Veterinary Medical Centre's arthroscopic, radiographic, CT and MRI facilities that are gold-standard and unmatched in Queensland.

We work closely with UQ VETS specialists in surgery, medicine, anaesthesia and digital imaging and are supported by 24/7 certified nursing staff.

Our collaboration with specialists and clinical academics allows us to provide comprehensive diagnoses and innovative care for patients.

Supporting UQ students

When providing onsite care, our vets regularly bring small groups of final-year UQ veterinary science or veterinary technology students with them to provide additional care and attention.

On-farm visits, particularly to dairy and beef cattle herds, are integral to our students’ development. We provide students with a steady caseload to ensure they graduate with on-the-job skills and knowledge.
