UQ VETS Equine Specialist Hospital offers appointments with our highly trained veterinary specialists across a range of services.

You will need a referral from your regular veterinarian before our specialists can evaluate or treat your horse. You're welcome to contact us to discuss your horse’s case before you arrange a referral.

As we are a teaching hospital, final-year veterinary students are routinely involved in consultations and procedures under close supervision.

Complete the Ownership Declaration Form

Please check your emails for your General admittance and consent form (PDF, 232 KB), which will have the intial detials about your appointment and the required deposit amount. If it's your horse's first visit to our hospital this form also helps us to collect all the important details about your horse and to update any of your personal details, if these have changed. Once you have compelted this form please email the it to uqvets.eq@uq.edu.au before your appointment.

Provide your medical history and Hendra virus vaccination record

Email uqvets.eq@uq.edu.au your horse’s relevant medical history or bring it to your appointment. This can include your horse’s vaccination history, previous medical records from other veterinarians, X-rays etc.
Your horse must be vaccinated for Hendra virus to attend their appointment at UQ VETS Equine Specialist Hospital. This is in line with UQ VETS mandatory Hendra Vaccination Policy. Ensure your horse is vaccinated before you make an appointment.

We require a deposit payment for your appointment

Our team will contact you to process a 50 per cent deposit payment for your horse’s estimated treatment or hospital stay fees.

Prepare for your horse's standing MRI exam.

Arrange your horse's arrival/departure

Make sure your horse is ready to arrive and depart during business hours. You must discuss departures outside business hours with us in advance.

Parking, check-in and admission

Park your vehicle

The car park gates are closed. Enter 111 into the keypad and the gates will open towards you.
You can access the car park with a large gooseneck or trailer.
Speak to staff if you need to leave your float or trailer at our clinic during treatment.

Check in at reception

Visit reception after you’ve parked your vehicle in the marked parking area.
Our reception staff will arrange for staff to help you unload and stable your horse within the hospital.

Admission

We’ll exchange your horse’s halter for one of our hospital halters at admission.
Clearly mark personal items with your name and your horse’s name. We don't take responsibility for items left at the hospital.
If your horse is coming by transport, we’ll hold items for return at discharge.
Once your horse is settled in, return to reception for your appointment and complete the necessary paperwork.

Payment and discharge

Payment

Before your horse leaves the hospital, you'll need to pay the remaining 50 per cent of your horse's treatment or hospital stay fees in full or over the phone.

Discharge

We'll provide you with your horse's discharge notes. We'll send your horse's medical record to your regular veterinarian.
Make sure your horse is ready to depart during business hours.
Remember to take any tack with you when you leave.
